Chemicals
Calcium phosphate
Calcium phosphates comprise several calcium-to-phosphorus ratios and phases used in ceramics, chemicals and other formulations.
Material-specific processing priorities
Specify compound, grade and use. Control hard agglomerates and coarse particles, and assess contact-material contamination where high-purity formulations are intended.
Process selection
Low-contamination milling and uniform dispersion
These are starting points for selection and trials. Choose steps for the actual target; not every material needs every operation.
- 01
Identify powder state: check phase, purity and drying history to decide between agglomerate dispersion and particle fracture.
- 02
Compare processing intensity: trial jet milling for brittle powders and lower-intensity dispersion for soft agglomerates; choose contact materials against impurity limits.
- 03
Classify and collect cleanly: control coarse tails, reduce hold-up and batch carryover, and transfer in an enclosed path to downstream blending.
Selection rationale and related equipment
Choose the processing action for the feed before comparing configurations.
Use jet milling to assess fineness and contamination control, and classification when the main particle population is already suitable. Laboratory trials establish contact compatibility and the minimum useful intensity.
Information to prepare before a trial
Composition, phase, purity grade, feed size and agglomeration, target distribution, impurity limits, temperature and cleaning requirements.
Also provide planned throughput, continuous or batch operation, intended use, gas/heat utilities and available sample quantity. State measurement methods and dispersion conditions for D10/D50/D90 so trials are comparable.
How to evaluate trial results
Size tails, elemental impurities, dispersion and recovery including line clearance; surface area or sintering/formulation testing as required.
Trial records should link feed batch and condition with configuration, operating conditions, collection and measurement methods. Throughput, energy and product specifications depend on tests under agreed conditions and should not be transferred across materials or grades.
