Process notes

Battery-material lines and process boundaries

Connect dosing, milling, blending, screening, magnetic separation, conveying and packaging around the material route, defining interfaces with thermal and other external processes.

How it works and what it targets

Battery-material EPC starts by allocating final size, moisture, impurity and batch-consistency targets to individual operations, then defining equipment and controls. Precursor synthesis, wet processing, drying and firing may involve different suppliers. A unit shown in a flowsheet is not necessarily manufactured by the same party; the line proposal defines supply scope, interface responsibility and acceptance criteria.

Reference process steps

  1. 1Unpack, store, dose and mix raw materials, connecting upstream operations to the formulation.
  2. 2Apply suitable milling, deagglomeration, drying and classification after thermal or other upstream processing.
  3. 3Blend, screen, remove magnetic contaminants, convey and pack, linking batch records to testing.

Configuration and operating conditions

LFP, LMFP and iron-phosphate interfaces

LFP finishing can include post-firing milling, collection, batch blending, screening, magnetic separation and packing. Define responsibility at upstream dosing, wet dispersion, spray-drying and kiln interfaces. LMFP and iron-phosphate feed require separate composition, size and thermal assessments rather than reused LFP guarantees.

NCM and NCA

Sintered ternary cathodes require a balance between agglomerate breakup and primary-particle preservation. An NCA route may include mixing, thermal treatment, closed-loop milling, washing/filtration, deagglomeration/drying and further mixing/firing. Actual formulation and process design determine which steps are needed.

LCO and sodium-ion materials

Build the route around the specific chemistry; sodium-ion materials are not one uniform feed. Feeding, finishing, moisture and magnetic-contamination control follow the material specification, with trials preceding line targets.

Silicon–carbon and graphite anodes

For silicon–carbon composites, distinguish sintered agglomerates, primary particles and coatings. Graphite routes can combine milling, shaping, classification/fines removal and blending. Define coating or thermal-equipment interfaces separately.

Lithium-salt milling and packaging

For lithium carbonate and lithium hydroxide, select milling, collection, transfer and packing around moisture sensitivity, atmosphere and purity. Product testing and storage/transport conditions jointly define the finishing section.

Project delivery

Requirements/trials → proposal and interfaces → manufacture and factory checks → packing/shipping → site installation and commissioning → training and handover. The technical agreement defines flowsheets, equipment/interface lists, controls, operating/maintenance documents, spares and acceptance methods.

Information needed for selection

Provide chemistry and formulation scope, upstream discharge condition, product targets, annual output/operating hours, building, utilities, existing equipment and local delivery requirements.

Trial and acceptance considerations

Line acceptance covers stable output, size, moisture, impurities, mass balance and batch traceability. Define sampling point, test method and applicable formulation for each metric.
