Battery Materials
Special carbon
Specialty carbon covers application-defined carbon materials for conductive, structural or energy-storage formulations rather than one chemical grade.
Material-specific processing priorities
Identify coke, graphite or porous-carbon feedstock before deciding on grinding, deagglomeration or shaping. Ash, volatiles and morphology are essential route-selection inputs.
Process selection
Establish material identity and processing goals first
These are starting points for selection and trials. Choose steps for the actual target; not every material needs every operation.
- 01
Confirm material scope: provide composition, origin, grade and treatment state, distinguishing single materials, formulations and recovered feeds.
- 02
Define the task: decide separately whether cutting, drying, dispersion, milling, classification or shape adjustment is needed, then choose comparable small-sample trials.
- 03
Develop selection inputs: use intended application, full mass balance and quality measurements to establish the route, equipment and engineering scope.
Selection rationale and related equipment
Choose the processing action for the feed before comparing configurations.
Unidentified or complex feedstocks start with technical assessment. Laboratory platforms compare candidate routes; production equipment follows once properties, handling scope and measurement methods are established.
Information to prepare before a trial
Accurate identity, composition/safety data, origin, moisture, thermal and dust properties, feed size, end use and acceptance methods.
Also provide planned throughput, continuous or batch operation, intended use, gas/heat utilities and available sample quantity. State measurement methods and dispersion conditions for D10/D50/D90 so trials are comparable.
How to evaluate trial results
Verify identity and route suitability first, then record size, shape, impurities, recovery and application-specific metrics.
Trial records should link feed batch and condition with configuration, operating conditions, collection and measurement methods. Throughput, energy and product specifications depend on tests under agreed conditions and should not be transferred across materials or grades.
